Did a green thumb come along with my pregnancy???

Okay...several weeks ago I wrote THIS BLOG POST talking about mine and Shooter's weekend of gardening. Well, let me show you what's been happening to our tomatoes, basil and petunias since the end of April.

This is one of the window boxes. If you remember, this had three scrawny little plants in it and didn't look like it would ever amount to much. Well, it's proven me wrong. :-)

This is the silver bucket planter that had 6 scrawny plants in it about a month ago. It didn't take this planter long to get full to the max. It's so packed in there with blooms, I can hardly get in there to dead-head the petunias so they keep blooming!!

This planter had two SAD little red cherry tomato plants in it a few weeks ago. We already had to put one cage around them and now we're trying to figure out what to do with the stragglers who are blooming and will likely break off when the tomatoes start coming on if we don't do something about them.

This planter is in the same shape as the other one...it's going BANANAS!!!!!

Here's a close up of just a few of the tomatoes growing on the plants. We're going to be overrun here in about 4-6 weeks.

I just thought a picture of the blooms was pretty....

Oh...and here is the basil....it may not look like much now...but this is AFTER it got a pruning....

Here's the first harvest of basil for the year. Now...I just have to find some takers for it.... :-) Actually, I may make a batch of pesto and freeze it. I'll have to do some investigating on uses for basil. :-)

It's Wednesday and all is well.....

Whew...where is the time flying to?!??!?!

I know...I need to get pictures of the new kitchen up and I promise I'll do that this week! Shooter proclaimed that it was officially finished this week...and it is...for the most part. ha! We have some touching up to do on the paint and whatnot....and I need to shop for the decorative lady touches to the room...but the hard stuff is complete. And it looks awesome!

Baby Parker has been kicking up a storm here recently. Yesterday he was doing the rolling flips in my belly and I called Shooter over to feel the body part he was sticking out at us. Shooter was pretty freaked out but thought it was cool at the same time. Parker's regularly now sticking something out...either a butt or an elbow or a knee or something. Definitely hard to distinguish but it's definitely him.

I went in for my glucose tolerance test today - I'll know the results on Friday - hopefully it'll come back with good results. I definitely don't want to have to do the three hour ordeal. Ugh! My blood pressure is still great...which is a relief...and my weight gain is still awesome. So far I've only gained 10 pounds and only gained 1 pound over the last 4 weeks. I'm really proud of myself - and I need that confidence as I head into the part of my pregnancy where I'll start gaining more because of the baby growing but also because of water retention. Hopefully I won't swell too badly...I'm not swelling at all so far so hopefully that's a good sign. The PA that I saw today wasn't worried about my lack of weight gain because I'm measure about a 1/2 week ahead...measuring 29 weeks whereas I'm 28 weeks and 2 days today.

I'm really starting to get excited....today we talked about when I have to stop traveling more than an hour away from the hospital...and that begins after Memorial Day weekend! Luckily that's the weekend we have my family shower planned in East Tennessee so I can then stay around the house nesting and getting all that stuff tucked away for our little man.

Can I tell you that looking at the calendar has me really anxious. I realize that my next appointment will be at 30 weeks!!!!!! My next ultrasound will be at 32 weeks!!!!!!! After that I'll only have 8 weeks until Parker's due to arrive. I don't think I can even explain to you just how fast this pregnancy has gone for me. Time has flown and I'm afraid that it'll fly by once he's here too. I wanna hang on to the new baby smell and little baby feet for as long as I can!

*sigh*

I'm just going to take it a day at a time and enjoying everything. Shouldn't that be how you always live?

Later lovelies!

Whew - are the holidays really over?

Wow, I sit here on my couch on January 3rd and wonder where time has gone. I just realized that the last time I posted anything was one month ago on December 3rd.

Well, I am now almost 13 weeks pregnant and officially "out" to the world. I go on Tuesday for my perinatologist appoinment for the more involved ultrasound where they do measurements and such looking for possible defects such as Down's Syndrome or Spina Bifida. We're praying for a good appointment and that we will possibly find out whether we're having a boy or a girl. Well, we may not know for sure but we may come away with a good idea of the gender. :-) I am hoping that I am getting ready to turn the corner into the second trimester feeling pretty good.

Now that we're getting into the New Year we have to really start working on clearing out Shooter's man cave - yes, unfortunately he's having to give up the man cave so that the baby can have a room. He's actually being really good about it and has been working for weeks on clearing out all his shooting gear and consolidating all his stuff.

I did have an amazing appointment in December with a clinical psychiatrist and obstetrician (Dr. Newport at Emory University in Atlanta) in regards to my depression issues and current medication. (Refer to this post regarding my struggles: http://ramblingsrantsandrecipes.blogspot.com/2008/06/i-have-been-suffering-through-very.html) Luckily the news from the specialist was that we are no more at risk for birth defects than we would be if I were not on the medication. Also, he said that it would be better for me and the baby to stay on my current med than to come off or to switch meds. He also told me that there would be no problem with breastfeeding once the baby is born. Needless to say it was one of the most enlightening and uplifting doctor's appointments that I have had in a loooooooong time. I look back and now thank my OB for sending me over to see him.

One thing that I have been concerned about since finding out about this pregnancy is whether or not I will suffer post-partum depression. Dr. Newport told me that, unfortunately, I am 100% likely to suffer from PPD. At least we know this going in and can adjust medication appropriately so that I can be completely in the moment with my new baby once we come home.

Well, I can't wait to see what the next week brings!

Happy New Year everyone!!!

Updates and schtuff

Wow...the last few days have been a blur and I have been remiss in posting here on my blog.

Monday - I arrive home from work to find a package on the dining room table. Shooter says, what's this? I looked at it and screamed, "COOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" My fabulous blog friend Vanessa tagged me with a pass it on meme and sent me a wonderful box of peanut butter cookies. They're soooooo tasty....and no, I'm not sharing!

In Morey news:
Antibiotics - $145
Blood work - $130
Fluids - $100
Pain meds - $50
Anti vomit meds - $25
Getting my Morey boy all better - Priceless!!!!!

It has been a long couple of days getting Morey over the hump but he's doing much better. He's taking a really strong antibiotic that is prescribed primarily to pups with pancreatitis. He's going to be on it for something like a month....so we're hoping that this new antibiotic will do the trick and knock out whatever it is that keeps hanging on and making him sick. I am starting to knit him a little leg warmer as he had to have his leg shaved so they could give him fluids. I so have to take a picture of him for you guys...it's so sad!

Also, apparently I'm a bit psychic as I completely predicted the outcome of my scheduled visit from the cable guy. I stayed home on Tuesday....partially because of Morey getting better and partially because we had an appointment with the cable guy. Well....3pm comes and goes....and 4pm comes and goes....and 5pm comes and goes. Shooter's home at 5pm and he calls them, they say well, he's probably delayed - don't worry about it. Well, 5:45 comes and Shooter calls them again. This time the lovely customer service rep issues us a $20 credit on our bill and offers to call dispatch to see where the technician is. She calls us back 5 min later and explains that there will be no technician coming to the house as there are no cable boxes available at this time. Shooter has to go to the other side of the house, to his man-cave, to finish the conversation because I'm ranting and raving and screaming and yelling and throwing pillows and he can't hear. They agreed to credit us another $50 and put us on a high priority list for the cable box. What an utter joke. I hate the cable company...hate them with every ounce of energy I can muster.

Oh...and another rant....I ordered new specs last week. I was happily notified that they had arrived and I went to pick them up Tuesday evening. Well, the lady working was not helpful at all and when I told her the frames were obviously very crooked she just looked at me. I was all like, see, I can tell they're crooked can't you see it? We went back and forth with her heating them up and bending them and all this mess. After 15 min I'm all like, forget it....and she looks at me and says, "Well, ma'am, the frames are straight, we can't help you if your ears are straight." I was moments away from jumping over the counter when I gained control of myself and just walked out. I called back yesterday to find out I had dealt with the manager of all people!!!! I went back last night and talked to the lady I'd ordered the frames from and she told me that they are messed up, that they were bent improperly when they put the lenses in. They're rush ordering me a new pair. *sigh*

With all this crap going on...I just couldn't pull myself together enough post anything....but now I have it all off my chest....perhaps I'll come up with something charming for later today! :-)
